Ophthalmology - Diabetic Screening Clinic

Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness in the U.S., so it is very important that people have their eyes dilated and checked at least once a year. We offer a Diabetic Screening Clinic for these routine exams. This service is provided to help you maintain good vision, as diabetes can cause eye complications that have no visual symptoms in the beginning stages.

If you are a diabetic and are due for your exam, simply request a referral from your Health Care Provider (HCP) or civilian doctor, and our clinic will notify you by mail with an appointment date. You will be required to request a new referral every year.

At your appointment one of our diabetic technicians will do a basic eye exam (eyeglass exams are NOT available in this clinic) and both your eyes will be dilated. Then an Ophthalmologist will look at your eye. The results will be recorded in your medical record. Therefore it is important to have your medical record at the time of your exams.

This is an extremely busy clinic. The Ophthalmology Department does everything possible to complete your appointment quiickly and efficiently. We ask for your patience as at times you may be required to wait your turn for your exam.

Please Note: If you have previously been diagnosed with any eye condition that requires regular follow-up's by an ophthalmologist, you are NOT eligible for this screening clinic.
