A variety of pediatric clerkships are available in our department. The clerkships are generally open only to military officers (who are generally enrolled in the Health Professions Scholarship Program or the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences) and to civilian medical students from Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Third year students from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and Eastern Virginia Medical School regularly perform core general pediatric clerkships with us. Third year HPSP students are also welcome to perform third year core clerkships. In that case, we can use your school's prescribed curriculum or one from EVMS or USUHS.
Pediatric elective rotations are available in many subspecialties and general pediatrics. We also offer acting internships on our pediatric inpatient unit and neonatal intensive care unit. Many students like to combine several subspecialties in one elective rotation to get a broad exposure to pediatric subspecialties. Current pediatric medical subspecialty experiences available include Adolescent Medicine, Cardiology, Developmental Pediatrics, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Intensive Care, and Pulmonology. General Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Orthopedics, and Child Psychiatry are also available.
We will work to arrange a rotation that suits your educational needs and interests, and fits with your schedule limitations. Please contact our medical student coordinator for more information and to arrange a rotation. We would love to hear from you!
