Web Access for Persons with Disabilities

Web Access Symbol

Wondering why we have the Earth with a keyhole on our home page? It's the Web Access Symbol chosen by the National Center for Accessible Media.

The World Wide Web offers us access to things we never dreamed possible but that access is sometimes impossible for persons with visual or hearing problems. Graphics and sound can add tremendous richness to a site but relying too much on them may make the site useless for many users with disabilities. Users with older computer systems or slow connections may also have difficulties.

There is a lot of work being done around the world to develop technical solutions to these problems. Until we have better solutions, it is up to Web authors to make their pages as accessible as possible. The National Center for Accessible Media and a number of other organizations are providing help in doing that. The Web Access Symbol was chosen to identify pages and sites that make an effort to provide full access.

Navy Psychiatry is committed to providing the fullest access possible. Currently we have no sound or video resources on our pages. As we add new resources, we will work to keep the pages accessible. We would appreciate you letting us know if you observe any problems and giving us your suggestions and other comments.
