Navy Psychiatry Statement of Purpose
Navy Psychiatry exists to provide the best possible Psychiatric care to active duty Sailors and Marines during peacetime and contingency operations. Active duty Psychiatrists are also called upon to provide accurate counsel and guidance to line commands regarding the medical readiness and psychological fitness of their troops. In times of disaster Navy Psychiatry provides critical incident stress debriefing through the Special Psychiatric Rapid Intervention Team (SPRINT) during peace time or through Combat Stress Centers during armed conflict. The Navy operates three Psychiatry training programs to provide state-of-the-art graduate medical education. When space and resources are available, Navy Psychiatry monitors or provides Psychiatric care to other military beneficiaries.
